Gehl Skid Steer Attachments and Adapters
Older Gehl skid loaders do not use the universal quick-tach mount that nearly every modern skid steer attachment is built for. That single fact is behind most of the frustration people hit here: the machine still works fine, but the attachment market has moved on without it, and a bucket or grapple bought off the shelf will not hang on the loader arms.
There are three ways out of that, and which one you want depends on whether you are trying to buy modern attachments, keep old ones working, or build something yourself.
1. Run modern full-size attachments (the quick attach conversion)
This is what most people mean when they search for a Gehl quick attach conversion kit. The adapter mounts to your Gehl and presents a standard full-size skid steer quick-tach face, so the machine can then pick up ordinary skid steer attachments — the largest and cheapest pool of equipment out there, including used and ex-rental.
Fits: Gehl 4625, 4635, 4840, 5620, 5625, 5635, 5640, 6620, 6625, 6635 and 6640.
2. Repair or re-mount what you already own
If the attachment is fine but the mount is worn, bent or cracked, you do not need a conversion at all — you need the mounting hardware. On a machine that has been working for decades this is usually the real problem, and it is by far the cheaper fix.
- Gehl Skid Steer Mounting Ears (4-Piece Set) — $285. Replaces the hangers an attachment pivots on, or adds a Gehl mount to an attachment that never had one.
Fits: Gehl 4525, 4625, 4635, 4840, 5620, 5625, 5635, 5640, 6620, 6625, 6635 and 6640.
3. Build your own attachment
A blank mount plate carries the Gehl-side geometry already cut and formed, so you weld your own working end to it and finish with an attachment that mounts like a factory one.
- Gehl Skid Steer Mount Plate (Raw) — $390. Ships raw and uncoated, ready to weld and finish.
Fits: Gehl 4525, 4625, 4635, 4840, 5620, 5625, 5635, 5640, 6620, 6625, 6635 and 6640.
Which one do I need?
Short version: buying modern attachments means the full-size adapter. Fixing a worn mount means the mounting ears. Fabricating something means the raw mount plate. The adapter is the only one of the three that needs no welding.
Gehl loaders changed over a long production run and plenty have been repaired or modified along the way, so a model number is not always the last word. If you are not certain which of these fits your machine, text a photo of your loader arms and mount to 1-815-200-9363 or email zach@smithcustomz.com and we will confirm before you order.
Everything here is made to order in the USA from American steel. Browse all Gehl attachments, or see the full adapter range if you are converting a different machine.
